My favorite performance venues range from anywhere in Croatia to Carnegie Hall to the Orange Show.and Discovery Green in Houston. I love it all! It’s all about the performance! Even my degree is in performance.

LORETA KOVACIC, entertainer

Known for her virtuoso performances from Mucky Duck to Carnegie Hall, Loreta Kovacic is recognized both as a pianist and a singer-songwriter. She calls herself a three for one special: pianist, singer-songwriter and a storyteller. Her original album "Brother Tadpole classics" was nominated for a Grammy in 2011. She started out as a classical pianist in her home country of Croatia. After immigrating to Texas and graduating with a Doctorate degree in Music from Rice University, she continued her work as a performer and a teacher, later adding an original children's theatre, the "Alchemist Piano Theatre".  "Her show has a distinctively cabaret feel to it, with all the notes filtered through her larger then life personality" (Culturemap, Houston 2010). “She moves from classical to jazz and pop genres as fluidly as her fingers dance around the ivories (Houston Press)”. “Genuine artistry at the keyboard” (Vecernji List, Croatia).

She is a Houston Heights landmark with her annual Christmas family show at "Lights in the Heights".   She performs as a pianist - entertainer, playing in variety of styles from classical and ragtime to pop. Her music and her "Liberace coat" have embellished many ceremonies and fundraisers, adding a touch of joyful artistry to themed parties, from Broadway to Halloween. In Houston Heights, her home since 1999, she is also known as the "Texas Slav" or the "Alchemist".

Loreta writes and performs original piano music inspired by world music, Eastern European folk music and music of Charlie Chaplin and Georges Melies.  She has been accompanying silent movies at the MFA Houston as well as Discovery Green for the Silent Movies series sponsored by KUHF.  She performs live on public radio stations in Houston (KPFT and KUHF) and occasionally she appears live on Croatian TV.  Her albums the "Space Wiggs", the "Piano Notturno" and "Loreta Kovacic, pianist" have been played in orbit, on the International Space Station.
